The meranti wood is native form Southeast Asia and it’s also known as Philippine Mahogany. The heartwood is pale yellowish-orange when freshly cut, aging to a golden yellow-brown. The texture is coarse with large pores and it has interlocked grain. The obeche comes from Tropical West Africa and the colour tends to be a pale yellow, with the sapwood not clearly differentiated from the heartwood. The grain is interlocked with a medium coarse texture.
