The wood from which the lamp was designed is black walnut , native from North America. It has a pale darker heartwood that tends to a dim chocolate darker with darker brown streaks. The grain is normally straight and it has a medium texture. Its characteristics along with its rich brown coloration puts the wood in a special place among hardwoods. The walnut also has good dimensional stability, shock resistance, and strength properties. The wood is carefully sanded and coated with a high quality lacquer for a  hard, durable finish.
